Feminine v Edgy Spring Racing Style

Throughout the spring racing period, I get so many emails asking for advice on how to select a headpiece for a particular outfit. So, in this Spring Styling series, I'll be delving into some beautiful Australian designed outfits, and explaining how I would go about styling them.

Today I'm working with the divine 'Hudson' dress in black by Acler.

I love the feminine feel of the accentuated sleeves, but having said that, this is a beautifully versatile design that could be styled for a slightly edgier look as well. The lightweight pleated fabric also happens to be perfect for the spring sunshine!

Here are my top suggestions for millinery pairings:

PICK ONE - 'PARBURY' IN BLACK

My first headpiece pairing suggestion is 'Parbury' in black. The soft lines of the petals on this piece are going to complement the silhouette of the sleeves perfectly, while the gold band will pick up on the belt buckle.

PICK TWO - 'PIPER' IN BLACK

Next up I’m suggesting 'Piper' in black. The sleeves of this dress make a statement in themselves, so I want to keep the headpiece fairly subtle. Piper is simple yet special, and the dark gems are going to really sparkle in the spring sun.

PICK THREE - 'ZARETTA'

Finally I’m suggesting 'Zaretta' in gold. This asymmetrical design is going to give your look a slightly edgier feel, and would look particularly good with a slicked back hairstyle.

These are my top three picks for The Hudson Dress, but there are so many different directions you could take with this outfit! Factors like your hair colour, skin tone, how you want to accessorise, and how much of a statement you want to make, all come into play.
